Contentful Content: Contentful TestDuring my work on improving Google Maps functionality, I identified a critical gap in how users plan multiple-destination trips. The existing list view lacked flexibility and intuitive organization features that travelers and event planners desperately needed. I led a comprehensive UX research initiative involving interviews with 15 frequent users, competitive analysis of 5 alternative mapping solutions, and 3 rounds of usability testing. The enhancement I designed allows users to create, save, and categorize multiple destination lists within a single map view. This required careful information architecture planning to maintain simplicity while adding robust functionality. The new nested listing system supports color-coding, drag-and-drop reordering, and customizable route optimization preferences. Implementation involved collaboration with backend developers to ensure the feature integrated seamlessly with Google's existing infrastructure. We introduced real-time collaboration elements, allowing multiple users to contribute to a shared itinerary—particularly valuable for group travel planning. Post-launch analytics showed a 42% increase in multi-destination planning sessions and a 27% decrease in abandoned planning sequences. User satisfaction scores for trip planning features improved by 3.4 points on a 10-point scale, confirming that this enhancement addressed genuine user needs while maintaining the intuitive experience Google Maps is known for.
