Contentful Content: Contentful TestThe Museum of Contemporary Art, Connecticut approached me to completely reimagine their digital presence to better reflect their innovative exhibitions and community engagement initiatives. Their existing website suffered from outdated architecture, poor mobile responsiveness, and didn't effectively communicate the museum's unique identity in the contemporary art world. I began with immersive research, spending time in the physical museum spaces to understand visitor flows, interviewing staff across departments, and analyzing visitor demographics and behavior patterns. This informed the development of six user personas representing different audience segments from serious art collectors to first-time family visitors. The information architecture was restructured to prioritize upcoming exhibitions, educational programs, and the visitor experience. I implemented a dynamic calendar system integrated with ticketing functionality and developed an innovative virtual gallery feature that provides engaging previews of exhibitions. The visual design employs a minimalist aesthetic that complements rather than competes with the artwork, using strategic white space and typography inspired by exhibition catalogs. Accessibility was a core focus, with the site achieving WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. The content management system was customized to allow non-technical staff to update content easily through modular components. Performance optimization resulted in a 3.2-second reduction in average page load time despite more rich media content. Post-launch metrics showed a 78% increase in mobile engagement, 42% longer average session duration, and a 23% increase in online ticket purchases. The museum reported significantly improved visitor preparedness and engagement during physical visits as a direct result of pre-visit website exploration.
